This is further east than L'Aquila and hence is a better location for exploring the National Park area.

It was the birth place of the Roman poet, Ovid and has a statue of him in a prominent position. Curiously the nose is nothing remarkable although his agnomen was 'Naso' or Bignose. However the city as a whole conjures up more mediaeval images than Roman ones. The Piazza Garibaldi is very appealing with an aqueduct snaking around two sides, whilst the cathedral and other churches build on the atmosphere.
