Sights in Kilkenny
Edit ThisSt. Canice's Cathedral
Edit ThisVery nice 13th century cathedral, many carvings in black Kilkenny limestone. You can climb the tower.
Ireland's second largest medieval cathedral was established by St.Canice as a monastic settlement in the 6th century, William the Earl Marshall built the cathedral on the site in the first decade of the 13th century.Much of the building was carried out between 1215 and 1260. Cromwell's troops wreaked havoc on the cathedral in 1650, but it survived and was restored in the 18th century along with its remarkable limestone grave slabs.

The Castle
Edit ThisThis is the big attraction. An imposing structure standing high above the river. Founded in the 12-th century, it was restored in the 19-th. Within the castle is the Butler Gallery.
Tours take place every 20 mins during July and August and take approx 45-50 Mins. Be prepared to leave your camera at a check-in. There is no photography allowed in the castle and they are serious about it. At the time the author took the tour, a security guard checked the guests' bags and required them to check their cameras downstairs.
