Oysters at the Market in the Temple Bar area

Oysters at the Market in the Temple Bar area

Hans-Peter Harmsen

The Irish kitchen is very basic, not as refined as French cuisine, but still very tasty. One of the wasy to start the day is with an Irish breakfast. Cooked breakfast usually consists of orange juice, bacon, eggs, sausages, baked beans, tomatoes and with toast or whole meal bread. The main meal for the Irish person is lunch, and most bars offer a hearty meal and you can enjoy plenty Guinness to wash it down. The potato is the basis for many Irish dishes. You get them served with almost everything, either boiled, baked or roasted. Irish stew is of course one of the main dishes made from pork, beef or sheep, but being on an island fish is also available in many varieties. If you want to have lunch on a Sunday you'd better make reservations, because there's tradition to go out and have Sunday roast with the whole family, after which most pubs and restaurants close their kitchen. For restaurant and pubs check out The Irish Times for a review! negro
