Day Trips in Ireland
Edit ThisBest of Ireland Day Trips Options: Visiting Glenveagh
One of the most recommended Ireland day trips is to visit Glenveagh, an expansive stretch of lush green valleys, national conservation areas and castles.
Glenveagh is located about 25 kilometers to the northwestern end of Letterkenny. It can be easily reached by rental car and driving along the connecting roads from Churchill and Kilmacrennan.
Glenveagh CastleThe castle is located along the shores of Lough Veagh. Glenveagh Castle was built during the era of Scottish influence in Ireland. It exudes the rarely seen, Baronial style of Scottish architecture. It was built during the latter part of the 19th century. There are token charges for the bus rides and guided tours of Glenveagh Castle.
Glenveagh National ParkThe Glenveagh National Park is a delight for all members of the family. It is largest conservation area in Ireland. The park contains the best of the island nation’s flora and fauna. The display includes different gardens, each with a particular theme and a wide array of exotic plants. Some of the rare plants here have been sourced from Chile and Tasmania. Hike-like walking tours are arranged to Ranger Lead Hill. Free, shorter walking tours for the family are also scheduled. There is no admission charge.
Glenveagh Visitor CenterThis center is located along the northern part of Glenveagh. This center is dedicated to explaining the history of the nation along with providing important details about planning hiking trails around the valley. In addition to providing information, the visitor center also offers tour buses, a restaurant and baby-changing stations.
