Aranysárkány (Golden Dragon)

Rab Ráby
Edit ThisDecked out like a homestead in the Hungarian countryside, the Rab Ráby is cluttered with bells, clocks, musical instruments and farm tools. Sit on wooden benches around the candlelit tables and soak in the atmosphere. The traditional Hungarian fare is reasonably priced, and excellent. The waiters - unlike at many other places! - have some spring in their step. Open 12:00 - 22:00. (690 - 890 Ft).

Százéves Sólyom (100-Year-Old Hawk)
Edit ThisThis new restaurant, decked out in a plush red, comes off as elegant but not stuffy (witness the french fries served as garnish). Open 11:00 - 23:00. Closed Tue. (1000 - 1500 Ft)

Vidám Szerzetesek (Merry Monks)
Edit ThisYou'll know the place when you see a statue of a friar hoisting a plate of fish. The menu here appears in more languages than Berlitz, and the riot of foreign banknotes displayed inside bears witness to how many foreigners have visited the Merry Monks over the years. The speciality, Monk's Pleasure (920 Ft), combines meat, potatoes, veggies and cheese, all cooked up in an earthen pot. Open 12:00 - 22:00. Closed Mon. (880 - 1880 Ft)

Nosztalgia Kávéház
Edit ThisThis café claims to be where the Dobos cake (a hard-caramel-topped Hungarian speciality) was first invented. It is still served here according to the original recipe - scrumptious. Owner Tibor Éliás and his wife happen to be professional opera singers, which explains the classical music. Open 10:00 - 20:00.

Szabó Marcipán Múzeum
Edit ThisCome to this patisserie for tasty cakes, strudel and ice cream. Upstairs is a marzipan museum (admission 400 Ft), sort of like a wax museum, but tastier. Famous Hungarians, the Parliament building, and a life-size dog are all rendered in sugary almond paste. Open 10:00 - 18:00.
