It was built as the pair and also the oppiste of the Dohany Street Synagogue, built by the neologist jews between 1868-72. Till 1959 prayers were held here, after a contruction company buoght it to be renovated, but after they went bankrupr, only the sructure and oitside were done. since then it had been owned by the Hungarian Privatization Company, and from them it wwent to the Budapest Jewish Community.
