Edit ThisBudapest boasts of a rich archaic identity that makes it a superb destination for travelers looking to explore more off-beat European destinations. It has plenty of character and is a vivid collage of art, music, architecture and nature. The Budapest itinerary presents a 7-day travel schedule for visitors looking to unveil the finery of this enigmatic Hungarian Capital.
Day One: Set Out
Set the tour off by exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, located in the heart of the city. The Buda castle quarter and Saint Stephen's Basilica are other tourist attractions. The Fishermen’s Bastion sports a panoramic view of the entire city. Don't miss out on a culinary feast of Hungarian cuisine and finish the day with a meal at the world famous Mátyás Pince Restaurant.
Day Two: River Ride
A guide well versed in English and German will keep you glued to your seats on a boat ride as you float through Danube, experiencing the beautiful sights and the rich historical monuments of Budapest. Explore marvelous architectural wonders by taking a walk down Castle District that rests on the banks of Danube. The Hungarian Crown Jewels and the world’s second largest synagogue are a must see.
Day Three: Island Fever
Margaret Island will fulfill your recreational needs; the aqua park is a perfect getaway for the kids during the day and gets better by the night at the dance clubs.
Day Four: City of Spas
Rejuvenate your senses at the Király Baths with the finest cupola-topped pool or The Gellért Baths with its awesome Art Nouveau interior. The Széchenyi Baths is by far the largest bathing complexes in Europe.
Day Five: From Van Gogh To Picasso
Surrender yourself to the astounding art captured in time at The Museum of Fine Arts, The Budapest History Museum and The Museum of Contemporary Art. The Museum of Applied Arts is also famous for its display of the baroque period.
Day Six: Concert and Exhibitions Galore
The Invisible Exhibition is a wonderful journey to an invisible world where touching, hearing and smelling are the only senses that work. Witness the magic of music at the city’s concerts, the Opera house and the Millenáris Culture Center, also called the ‘place of wonders.’
Day Seven: Hungarian Souvenirs
Shop at the József nádor tér, displaying exquisite Herend porcelain for art connoisseurs or the designer stores across Fővám tér. The jewelry shops, perfumeries, boutiques and gift shops can send you on a spending spree. Check out the Mammoth Mall and the latest addition, Arkad.
