Practical Information in Zakinthos
Edit ThisIN ZAKINTHOS
I have just returned from 5+ weeks in Greece and we had a few days only in Zakinthos AND it will forever be remembered as the city that I "tripped in "
Walking down the street mid morning and checking out the shops with my sister ahead and my parents wondering in and out of the various tourist shops "I tripped and sprained my left ankle "
OOPS !!!! what pain and suddenly felt faint and very dizzy. So I sat right on the sidewalk and waited to feel better. My sister realising ahead what had happened came back and just looked at me and was not pleased that I had ruined her morning of shopping ? She waited a while and walked me across to a street cafe when we requested a bag of ice for the ankle and then another. Almost 30 mins later I had to get up and walk "I was not going to sit there for hours " like a hurt puppy !
Walking was OK and we got back to the hotel with success and the next day back to Athens in pain. On the ferry boat my ankle had become painful and had to be bandaged by the crew WITH THANKS TO THE CREW .
Back in Athens I kept off it for a few days and wondered if it would get worse ??? it just stayed the same (when I walked too much it was sore ) and when rested it was good.
The reason I am sharing this with you is that ZAKINTHOS, like many other parts of Greece has AMAZING and spectacular scenery BUT it also has broken and damaged pavements and uneven sidewalks !!!
What if I had been older and not too good on my feet OR wearing high heels and on the way to a wedding in the City of Churches ?
Be aware that WINDOW SHOPPING in Zakythos has a whole new meaning to me now and almost ruined my holidays with family and my sister !
Athens is much much worse. Especially in the older suburbs where most of my family lives. Kipseli is a health hazard for sure. As nice as Greece is I am sure we can start to get the streets and sidwalks repaired !!!
We build the Acropolis ! Can we do something about the sidewalks please ?
Yiasou for now
