Sights in Stoupa

Edit This

Stoupa sights have become one of the most heavily-toured places along the Mani Peninsula of the southern coast of Greece. Stoupa sights blend everything that a visitor seeks—scenic landscapes, heritage sites and historical buildings. Some of the most recommended Stoupa sights have been listed below:

Village of Kardimili

This is a small seaside village along the northern end of Stoupa. Reaching Kardimili is easy as there are many buses that commute between this village and the central market of Stoupa. Kardimili is popular for its unspoiled, sandy beaches. The outer extent of the pebble beach is lined with humble dwellings of the villagers. Visitors can visit this part of Stoupa and explore the idyllic, countryside lifestyle of Greek villages. Kardimili also provides the option of camping during the daytime. The inner lanes leading towards the villages provide an opportunity to explore some pre-historic ruins, many of which are still under exploration. The food here is authentic Greek and the rates are quite affordable.

Coastline of Deep Mani

Everyone visiting Stoupa is recommended to spend at least a day exploring the splendor of the inner stretches of Mani. This is the more mysterious of Stoupa coastlines wherein some sections still haven’t been decoded. Further, the background is delightful with ruins of small mud-houses, ancient churches and historic fences that separate the nearby villages. There is some confusion regarding the geographic marking of the coast of Deep Mani. However, for all touring purposes, the coastline begins once the visitors step beyond the village of Lakonia.

Dimitrios Beach

The Dimitrios beach is also called the Pantazi. It is among the most beautiful of Stoupa beaches. The Agios Dimitrios Beach is considered to have the clearest of waters among the popular, Mediterranean beaches. Some of the other nearby beach-spots includes the Votsi and Tzotzi. This beach is shaped in a unique, horseshoe shape. It has long stretches of pebble stones and some sections aren’t accessible for foreign visitors. Along the more accessible parts of the beach, a small tavern exists that is perfect for spending a night, gazing at the starlit coastal waters.

Kalamata Town

Located an easy bus-ride away from central Stoupa, Kalamata is counted among the culturally-significant towns of southern Greece. It is popular for its native dances and embroidered silk fabrics. In terms of native offerings, Kalamata is renowned for its olives and figs. From here, visitors can also proceed to the harbor of Messenian Gulf. For hiking trails, visitors can head towards the Taygetus range. Kalamata has some other sites that are worth visiting. This includes the Railway Park that has a display of historic carriages and engines.
