Budget Travel Ideas in Stoupa
Edit ThisEnjoy a Budget Vacation in Stoupa
These Stoupa budget travel tips will show you that it is absolutely possible to enjoy a nice budget-friendly vacation here in Stoupa. You can save a serious amount of money, while enjoying a wonderful summer holiday, if you are aware of the details. Here is how to cut your costs.
When to Go
The first thing you should do to spare your budget is to visit the village at an appropriate time. Stoupa is known as a beach resort and its peak tourist season is in August. That's when prices reach their highest levels. They are much more normal in June and July, reaching their minimum levels in May and September. However, May and September don't have so ideal weather, so the best time to visit Stoupa (saving money, but still having fun) is either in June or in early July.
Getting There
The fastest way of getting to Stoupa is usually by taking a plane from Athens to Kalamata and then a taxi from Kalamata to Stoupa. However, this is definitely not the cheapest way. Of course, it will last a little longer, but you can save some money by taking a bus from Athens to Kalamata. Take a regular bus and not an express, as it is cheaper, while the difference is only one hour (regular buses travel 4 hours, while express travel 3 hours). Buses from Kalamata to Stoupa travel less than an hour, so for a total of less than 6 hours you will reach Stoupa, saving unnecessary costs.
Where to Stay
There are several 3-star hotels in the village, but you will be hardly able stay at one of them for a price lower than $60 nightly. Separate apartments are even more expensive. However there is an excellent alternative available and it is to stay at the Kalogria Camping. This is undoubtedly the best choice for your budget. The camping has over 100 campsites and is equipped with laundry and bathroom facilities, a playground and a mini-market. It is situated just 50m away from the beach and less than 100m from the center of Stoupa. Prices are about $30 nightly.
Where to Eat
Although there are some 20 restaurants situated right near the beach, they are more tourist-oriented and hold higher prices. If you want to eat some delicious food at a reasonable price, you’d better go to Melissa. It is a small family-run restaurant, which is located in a quiet place inside the village. You won’t have to pay more than $10 to satisfy your appetite, ordering a main dish, a starter and a drink.
