The lake Kerkini
Edit ThisThe lake Kerkini is a natural miracle which came from the human intervention at the river Strimon and became a shelter for thousands of aquatic birds. This wonderful natural shelter is protected by the international agreement Ramsar because it's home for thousands of rare and protected species of birds and a variety of rare fish. One of the main characteristics of the lake Kerkini is that the largest part of its surface is covered by water lilies. The lake is the only place in Greece where herds of buffalos can be seen.
