Edit ThisThe forest of Lailia is one of spectacular natural beauty. It is very close to the city of Serres (25 km). Extremely tall trees, deep ravines, precipitous rocks are its main characteristics. The forest of Lailia gives shelter to a variety of wild animals and rare species of birds. There are a few brown bears, roebucks, vultures, wild turkeys and partridges. During the winter the forest acquires an alpine magnificence as it is covered with snow and it attracts a lot of Greek climbers and nature lovers.

The lake Kerkini

The lake Kerkini is a natural miracle which came from the human intervention at the river Strimon and became a shelter for thousands of aquatic birds. This wonderful natural shelter is protected by the international agreement Ramsar because it's home for thousands of rare and protected species of birds and a variety of rare fish. One of the main characteristics of the lake Kerkini is that the largest part of its surface is covered by water lilies. The lake is the only place in Greece where herds of buffalos can be seen.

The Ravine of Aggitis

Close to the delta of the river Strimon, the river Aggitis run through a ravine. The forest of the ravine is inhabited by rare species of animals and birds. The Flora of the place is rare and extremely beautiful. The rock formations there, according to european scientific magazines, are dated at the 5th-6th century AC.
