Eating Out in Piraeus

Piraeus is a part of ancient Greece, Athens. Greek cuisine is filled with simple, delicious tasting food that is well liked by people all over the world. American cities are filled with Greek restaurants and almost everyone has had a little taste of Mediterranean flavors. Piraeus is a port city so the most popular dish in the area are fish and seafood dishes. There are many restaurants but even more common are pizzerias, taverns, and snack bars. One thing to remember when you're looking for traditional souvlaki food is that Greeks eat dinner pretty late at night so restaurants are more crowded around 8pm to 10pm.

Seafood Restaurants

Since Piraeus is right on the sea this is a great place to get some of the freshest seafood around. A lot of restaurants are right on the seafront and get their fresh fish caught daily. Some places integrate the fresh fish dishes into an extensive menu while others specialize in seafood cuisine. These are a few recommended places to get the best seafood in the area. Jimmy and the Fish is a great seafood restaurant in a relaxed atmosphere. Seating is right on the dock overlooking the waters or indoors. Prices here can be pretty expensive so if you're not looking for a fine dining like experience you might try somewhere else. Margaro is another seafood restaurant. Their specialty is the shrimp and koutsomoura fish though their menu changes often. Prices here range from $25 to $100 depending on the season. Other good options are Ammos and Dourambeis.

Souvlaki and Mediterranean Restaurants

Souvlatzidika are places you can get souvlaki food. There are a lot of these here since you are in Greece. One place to try is Vosporos which does a lot of grilled and souvlaki food. The restaurant overlooks a small bay and is a great place for a romantic night out. Prices range from around $28 to $35. Hilies Kai Mia Geuseis is another place for good Greek food. This is more of take out place with some chairs and tables for eating in. It's pretty cheap food but good food with prices averaging about $10. 

Taverns

Taverns are a big thing in Piraeus and it's the best places to get cheaper regional food. Iasonos 42 is a family owned tavern with a lot of good regional food. It has a fun friendly atmosphere and it's a hot spot for most locals. Other Taverns in Piraeus are the Kitchen Bar and Cost costa.
