Practical Information in Kavala
Edit ThisKavala is a beautiful city nestled in the hills of northern Greece, and this Kavala practical information guide outlines the basics of what you should know before visiting this seaside gem.
Getting Here
As the second largest city in Northern Greece, Kavala is easily accessible by any number of options. You can take a ferry boat in, as most of the islands offer a route to the city by some means. You may fly into the region by way of Alexander the Great airport. Regional coach is the preferred method to travel into the city and throughout much of the region. Once you've arrived in the city you'll find taxis readily available to help get you around the city. A bus option is also available.
Food and Drink
You should note that many bars and restaurants have different locations, depending on the time of year you visit. While most operate al fresco and seaside during the summer, many of those will close up and move inland during the cooler months. Evening dining runs later in Greece, typically beginning at 9 p.m. This is important to keep in mind as many restaurants will be closed during the traditional dinner hours Americans observe.
Currency and Language
The main language spoken is modern Greek. It is spoken by over 99% of the population. Turkish, the official language of Cyprus, is also heard occasionally.
The currency is the Euro. Generally the Euro is a bit stronger than the American dollar, with 1 Euro trading for $1.25 USD.
