History and Mythology

You need to visit the archeological city of Dion. It is just 17 km away from Katerini and is steeped in history. It is the oldest city in Greece. This is the place which was named for the king of the gods, Zeus. It also is the place from where Alexander the Great launched his campaign to conquer the known world. This place is over 2500 years old. It was built in about the fifth century B.C. You also need to see the abode of Gods itself, Mount Olympus. It is the biggest mountain range in Greece, with 52 peaks. It is a place with more than just history and mythology. Mount Olympus has a huge variety of plant life and you can actually hike to some of the peaks, even if your skill as a mountaineer is less than what you would like it to be. But if you are a proper climber, you have some excellent options.

The Beach

The beach of Parelia has a lot of fun to offer you. It received an award called the Blue Medal, which is given to show care of the environment. The beach is clean with no pebbles and has only soft sand.  There are no dangerous sea animals. You can scuba dive and see some of the most amazing views. You could photograph an octopus or you can see sea horses clinging to the shore. You can even see hermit crabs hiding. If you do not know how to scuba dive, this is the place to learn it very inexpensively. Apart from diving you have the most night fun you can have at the beach in this place. There are bars right on the beach. And you do not have to worry about safety because there are lifeguards available everywhere who are carefully watching everyone. So you can focus on just having fun.
