Katerini Shopping is an interesting experience, but definitely very rewarding. Katerini is a small town which is quite opposite its much bigger neighbor, Thessalonica, and everything here has a small town feel to it. Downtown is definitely a nice place to shop, but if you want to enjoy the great beach of Paralia, there is certainly an informal way to shop there as well.

Beach Shopping

While there are places you can go and shop on the beach, the real fun is with the hawkers who have a huge variety of things to offer. You can get pictures, necklaces and knockoffs of every kind. All of these are available at prices you cannot refuse. In typical Greek style you will want to bargain but many of the items for sale are so cheap that you may not need to. It is not just products that are available on the beach. Some pretty cool services like massages and fake tattoos which will last at least a week are also available. The massages are inexpensive and can really help.

Downtown Katerini Shopping

Pisodromo is the heart of Katerini where you will find a lot of shops. Most of the shops are small and will have an owner and an assistant and, if you are the bargaining kind, you can play some very interesting games here. You can definitely get some deals on a variety of things.

What to Buy and Where to Go

You definitely need to go to Leather Centro, where you will get some bargains on leather jackets. The quality is usually great as well. The store may not always have your size available, but jackets can usually be gotten fairly quickly from a warehouse. Apart from jackets there are many other items, like leather gloves, available at real bargain prices. It is important that you go inside the establishments, because this is one area where you do not want knock-offs. You will get even cheaper leather items outside the Centro, but the quality drops off dramatically.

Aside from leather, there are great deals available in fur in Katerini, but it is important that you know your fur. If you know your fur and you can bargain, you will probably get better deals on fur here than any other place. Katerini is also well known for its hazelnuts, almonds and pistachios, among other dried nuts. Again, like the leather jackets, the name here is important. The best producer here is the Avakian family.
