Argolis
No trip to Greece is complete unless you visit the beautiful towns of Argolis. Situated at 180 km from Athens, Argolis is a great place for sightseeing. Nafplio is a magnificent town in Argolis, encircled by 3 fortresses including Palmidi Fortress and the island of Bourtzi. Besides, there are some souvenir shops here where you can stop by. Near to Nafplio, Epidaurus is another historical site boasting of an amphitheater which held 14,000 people. Mycenae is another ancient Greek site situated in Argolis carrying the remnants and ruins of Atreus dynasty through ages.
Delphi
Located at 176 km from Athens, Delphi is one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. Delphi is famous for the worship of the Greek god Apollo. There the ruins of an ancient amphitheater, a stadium known for holding chariot races and a Doric temple that will give you an idea of the magnificence of the ancient Greece.
Cape Sounion
About 70 km from Athens, Cape Sounion is famed for the remnants of an ancient Greek temple of Poseidon, the god of sea. The great romantic poet Lord Byron had his name inscribed here during his trip to Athens. Besides, on the way from Athens to Cape Sounion, you will see a selection of some awesome beaches. Also, the sunsets on the Saronic Gulf will take your breath away.
Ancient Corinth
Corinth is an ancient Greek city located about 75 km from Athens. Ideal for a day trip, Corinth has the ruins of an amazing ancient temple dedicated to the god Apollo which was constructed in 550 BCE. In 146 BCE, Corinth was badly ravaged by the Roman emperors until it was rebuilt as a Roman city under the supervision of Julius Caesar in 44 BCE. Most of the ancient structures still surviving are the remnants of Roman architecture rather than Greek. However, recurring earthquakes have severely damaged most of these structures.
The Greek Islands
You can also go for a day trip to some of the exotic islands of Greece namely, Aegina, Poros, Hydra, Spetses and Angistri. You can visit these islands via cruise line, ferry or boat. All these islands have some awesome beaches and some excellent typical Greek villages for you to explore throughout the day.
