Beaches in Corfu

Edit This

Most of the islands of Greece are to the South and Southeast of the mainland, but Corfu is located in the west, in the Ionian Sea. The Ionian Sea is a beautiful body of water located between Greece and southern Italy and is just as blue as the Mediterranean Sea that it is connected to. The island is actually off of the coast of Albania, but Greek ferries travel there daily and the history of Corfu ties in strongly to the history of Greece. The warmest months are between June and September, making it the perfect time to visit Corfu's popular beaches.

Ipsos Beach

If you'd like to visit a beach where shops are within walking distance, visit Ipsos Beach in the village of Ipsos. A road runs along the entire length of the beach (which is quite long and relatively narrow) and tourist-type shops, cafes, bars and small markets line the area. The beach is pebbly, which means the ground is cooler (you will be thankful for this after visiting some other beaches) and chairs are set up all around the beach.

Liapades

Liapades is a stunning beach on the north part of the island. This is the perfect spot for those that don't care for the excitement brought on by large groups of tourists. This is a great beach to relax and take in the scenery in a peaceful manner. Chances are some of the only people you will see on this beach are snorkelers which is a popular activity for Liapades. This beach is close to the town of Corfu. Locals refer to this area as "The Ropa Valley".

Messonghi

Messonghi beach in the town with the same title is a beautiful resort beach. The town started as a small village with mostly fishermen, but now tourism has found it's way into Messonghi. The great thing about Corfu, though, is that tourism may be popular on the island, but it is not a highly industrialized area and most of the beaches are extremely clean and safe. Messonghi beach has everything a lounger or a sportsman would want. If you'd like to get your heart racing, rent one of their motor boats or jet skis. If you'd like to just relax, take a dip in the sea and have a good read in your sun-chair.

Acharavi

For families, try Acharavi beach. Equipped with sun-chairs and numerous activities, people of all ages can enjoy a day here. Most everything you would need is located within walking distance, including banks, hospitals, and grocery stores.
