Getting Around in Gibraltar
Edit ThisGibraltar transportation options consist of boats, ferries, taxis, buses and cable cars. The peninsula of Gibraltar is only about two and a half square miles. Given the small territory and winding streets, you will want to avoid driving. In fact, the best way to get to know the area is on foot. However, if you aim to do some sight-seeing and want to take a tour, consider the following options to get around:
Taxis
Guided tours are commonly conducted by "official taxis" throughout Gibraltar. Typical tours of the area take about one and a half hours. You can grab a taxi by the border, or catch one at central locations such as the Cathedral Square, Piazza Town Center, or Casemates Square.
Cable Cars
For a view of "The Rock", take the cable cars, starting at the Grand Parade, all the way to the top. They offer stunning views you just can't miss. There is an "Official Rock Tour" that takes approximately 2 hours. Stop by the visitor's center, which is located at the Duke of Kent House in Cathedral Square for details.
Buses and Boats
To get to the main peninsula, take a boat or ferry. The ferries also offer dolphin-watching tours that take visitors around the peninsula. As for getting around Gibraltar, there is a fleet of buses that can take you wherever you need to go. The fleet started operating in 2004, so the buses are in great shape. Main buses include lines 2, 3, 4 and 9. Bus line number 10 takes visitors to and from the frontier.
