The Trier Tourist Information is one the most helpful anf friendly information offices I ever was. It provides English-speaking guides for special topics such as the Jews in Trier, pilgrims in Trier, old inscriptions, in the footsteps of Karl Marx, Friedrich Spee, Johann Wolfgang Goethe, etc.

Post office:

Main post office: Bahnhofsplatz (next to the station)

City post office: Am Kornmarkt

These two post offices are open during normal business hours, also providing long distance telephone service. Stamps can be purchased from machines and from the desks.

Banks:

The visitor can exchange money at most Trier banks during regular banking hours: three banks are located near the Porta Nigra. Outside business hours, there are various other facilities available: Main Railway Station, automatic exchange machines at some banks, credit card cash machines (Citibank, Grabenstrasse). Tourist Information Trier accepts some foreign currencies and returns German small change.

Doctors / pharmacies:

Doctors' offices and pharmacies/chemists' shops are closed on Wednesday afternoon, but each pharmacy has in its window a listing of emergency pharmacies. Listings for emergency pharmacies, doctor or hospital facilities can be found in the local press or Tourist Information Trier.

Hairdressers:

Hairdressers' salons (most salons are for men as well as for women) are normally closed on Monday (exceptions in the downtown area: Essanelle in Galeria Horten (Kaufhof) Fleischstrasse 68; Gefühl, Palaststrasse 1; Kiemes, Kornmarkt 10; Müller, Fleischstrasse 37; Zimmermann, Hauptbahnhof, train station).

Event magazine:

For coming events consult "IllusTRIERte", published bimonthly. Annual important festivals: Moselle Festival, Old City Festival, Flower Festival Trier, Wine Festival, Trier Christmas Market, Europe Volksfest.

Shops:

Most businesses in Trier are open: Monday - Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. (8:30 on Thursdays), Saturday 9:30 a.m. - 1:00/2:00 p.m.; on the first Saturday of the month hours are extended to 4:00 p.m. (April-September) or 6:00 p.m. (October-March).
