Sights in Speyer

Speyer is a small, but nice old town with a few pleasant buildings, including the Dreifaltigkeitskirche, a Baroque church dating from 1701-17.  A portion of the old Medieval fortifications still exist, including a gate dating from the 14th-16th centuries.

Dom St. Maria and St. Stephen

The cathedral was built between 1025 and 1061 at the initiative of Emperor Conrad II, who is buried in the crypt.  It is an immense triple-nave basillica crowned by four towers, and was the largest Rmonaesque structure in existence until the building of Cluny.  It is considered by many to be the finest Romanesque cathedral in the world.

Mikwe

The Mikwe is a Jewish bath dating from the 11th century.  The remains of a Medieval synagogue can be found nearby.

Historisches Museum der Pfalz

The historical museum of the Pfalz contains displays of the region from prehistoric times to the present.  The highlight of the collection if the gold Neolithic hat, one of only four that have ever been discovered.

Technik Museum

This museum has a collection of cars and planes of the 19th and 20th century.  There are several large aircraft displays, including a Boeing 747.
