7 Day Itinerary in Cologne
Edit ThisHaving a 7 day Cologne itinerary will help you enjoy your visit to the city. Cologne is one of the busiest and most important tourist destinations in Germany. It is located in North Rhine-Westphalia state. It holds plenty of sightseeing places, which offer a broad range of choices to the tourists. These are a few areas that provide its visitor to experience its rich culture and tradition.
Day 1- Cologne Cathedral
A visit to the Cologne Cathedral is a must; this Cathedral survived the Second World War bombing by withstanding 14 hits. It has the largest façade than any cathedral and it features the statue of Mary and Child, which is entirely decorated with jewelry and precious stones.
Day 2-Boating on Rhine River and Visiting Old Town
In cologne there are several tourist boats available to take a trip on the Rhine River. Since the cruise boats dock here, the Rhine promenade along the old town is always busy. From here you can take a trip to the old town.
Day 3- City Gates and Walls of Hahnentorburg
This city's gates and walls are one of the rare examples present today that showcase Cologne’s medieval fortifications. It is located near the Rudolfplatz tram station. It represents the historic Roman structures. These gates and walls include Severins-gate, Gereonsmühlentower, Ulrepforte, Bottmühle, Eigelsteingate and Bayen tower.
Day 4-Cologne Botanical Garden and Zoo
A visit to the Cologne Botanical garden is a perfect place to enjoy nature. The garden also includes a lake. This garden is not too large so you can combine this trip with a visit to the zoo, which is opposite the garden. The zoo is home to several animals and birds and is worth visiting.
Day 5-Cable Car
The cable car will give you a new way of experiencing Cologne. You can take the cable car that goes over the Rhine or the one that goes over the gardens.
Day 6- Chocolate Museum and Mustard Museum
The Chocolate Museum is an unusual museum developed by the Imhoff-Stollwerck chocolate company. If you are a chocolate lover you will enjoy visiting this museum. A working factory present in this museum shows the production of chocolate products. The Mustard Museum is situated near the Chocolate museum and showcases the historic mustard mill from 1810. Guided tours of the museums are available.
Day 7-City Center Shopping and Christmas Market
Schildergasse and Hohe-Strasse are the main business and shopping streets. There are lots of famous stores to shop around. There are six Christmas markets in Cologne, which offer excellent purchasing options, so enjoy a day shopping in Cologne.
