Poppelsdorfer Schloss Botanical GardensThe Poppeldorfes Schloss is a palace that was built for the Bishop of Bonn. The palace became part of the University of Bonn and now it houses the scientific achievements of the university. The botanical gardens have 8,000 species of plants and a greenhouse is currently being built.
Poppelsdorfer is a common destination for people who love classical music. The performances take place every night of the summer. The Poppelsdorfer Schloss and the botanical gardens are located on Mekenheimer Allee 171, 53115 Bonn.
Beethoven HausThis house is where the musical genius was born. Many of his personal possessions are on display. His last piano and his musical instruments are still found in the house. The house has a small garden.
The Beethoven House is located on Bonngasse 20. Tourists can reach Beethoven Haus by tram number 62 or 66.
The Beethoven Festival
The Beethoven Festival has a special place on Bonn must-do list. This festival is held during the months of August and October. There are many international orchestras, soloists and music composers who pay tribute to Beethoven's music. One of the most renowned directors is Gustavo Dudamel, a director for the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
The Beethoven Festival takes place at several locations in Bonn. Some performances are given at the Pantheon, Beethoven Hall and the Post Tower Lounge.
Rhein in Flammen
The Rhein in Flammen is a fireworks display that usually takes place on the beginning of the month of May. Street vendors sell food and there is live music being played. People can also enjoy the fireworks while boating on the river. The boats need to be booked in advance. It is possible to have dinner on a boat during the fireworks show.
The HardtbergbadThe Hardtbergbad should be included in any Bonn must-do activities. There are many swimming pools in the Hardtbergbad. Kids can enjoy the pool that has a 30-feet-high water slide. There is also a water-jet area where children can splash each other.
The view from this location is breathtaking since the Hartbergbad is located on top of a mountain. The Cologne Cathedral can be seen from here.
