The city of Aachen is located along the German frontier adjacent to Belgium and the Netherlands . There are still many examples of medieval architecture to be admired here, like the City Hall and the Grashaus. Other tourist attractions are: Ponttor and Kleinmarschiertor (the two remaining city gates); the great Aachen Cathedral (built in the 9th Century); the Suermond-Ludwig Museum; the Newspaper Museum; the Customs History Museum, and the Computer Museum. A major riding competition called the CHIO is held here annually, and competitors come from all over the world. Another notable local event is the Ludwig Forum of International Art, which presents contemporary examples from all of the various visual and theatrical arts. The popular hotel chain Sofitel has a proper here that is in the luxury type and also the very budget minded Best Western Hotel Royal.

The hotel is just three minutes walk from the congress centre, eurogress and the international casino and the attractive municipal park and only seven minutes walk from the historic centre of the city. Although so close to the centre the hotel is surrounded by greenery and there is a lovely walk up to the belvedere tower just above the hotel from which is a lovely view over Aachen and the surrounding countryside as well as parts of Holland and Belgium.
