Aachen is located close to the border with Netherlands and Belgium. It shares an airport with Maastricht. It's a medium-size city which reached its peak during the 9-th century when Charlemagne made it his capital.

Sights in town include the Aachener Dom, a cathedral built especially for Charlemagne.
