Getting There

The airport that serves Recklinghausen city is Dusseldorf International. Most of the major airlines have international flights from most of the cities in the world. You can take a taxi or shuttle bus to get to the city which is 64 km away. The city is found in the Ruhr region where many industries thrive.

Main Tourist Attractions

Start by visiting the Icon Museum where you will find paintings done during the 15th to 19th centuries. Apart from paintings, various artifacts are also on display. The museum opens on Tuesdays to Sundays between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. It is closed on Mondays. The charges are five euros for adults and 2.50 euros for each member of  a group.

Hohewards Park

This is a place where you can observe the solar system using very sophisticated modern equipment. There are very tall steel structures that symbolize the earth's equator. This observation area is also surrounded by paths where you can take long walks and very unique pictures.

Old Town Hall

Make a point of going to see this building which has a unique architectural design and was built in the early 1900s.

Central Market Square

Head to this square where you will find some buildings, a shopping store and a famous building school called the Banhaus that were constructed in the 1930s.

Vestisches Museum

For some history about the city and the mining era, make sure you visit this museum. You will learn about the immigration of people from Poland and how they built the economy of the town. There also various displays like paintings, photos and old machines on how the mining was done.

Ackerburgerhauser (Timber Houses)

Ancient timber houses were built before World War II and a few of the remaining ones that survived the war are exhibited.
