Hornburg Travel Guide
Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seeHornburg is an old city, first mentioned in 994. It can be easily reached by car, when you travel from
Braunschweig to
Bad Ischl on the Autobahn 395. You can buy a really old house in this city.
The castle, partly destroyed by the Swedes in 1648, was once the dominant structure in the town. Now only the walls and the guard towers are visible from a distance. The castle is privately owned and sadly the public is not allowed to enter.
Apart from the Museum there seems to be few places for tourists to visit, but the real attraction is in the beauty of the half timbered houses, the shops and public buildings and these make it well worth a visit. Goslar about 40 km distant has excellent Hotels and is a good base from which to explore the northern Harz region.
