The museum was opened in 1979 and extended in 1992. The idea of the museum is the dialog between opening and closing, between the public and the atmosphere of art. Tiergarten

The term "Zoological Garden" often used for "Tiergarten" is not quite appropriate in this case. The 112 hectares of this recreational forest are inhabited by a large number of wild animals, making it one of Hannover's most popular attractions. Stadtpark

At the back of the city hall is a lovely park and garden with fountains, ponds, lawns, a rose garden and works of art. The "Stadtpark" was designed in 1951 when the first "Bundesgartenschau" took place right here. Eilenriede

Virtually a "city forest" and Hannover's true "green lung" is the Eilenriede forest. It covers an area of 650 hectares in the middle of the city, which makes it unique in the whole of Europe. The Castle of Hannover

Overlooking the picturesque old town of Celle lies the prominent castle. Celle became the residence of the Dukes of Braunschweig-Lüneburg in 1378, but of the medieval structures of the castle nothing has survived. It was built over a period of more than 100 years. The earliest part (from 1410) overlooks the Schmiedestrasse (Blacksmith Street), the later wing next to the market was erected on the foundations of the 13th century trade hall. Wilhelm Busch Museum

The Wilhelm Busch Museum was opened in 1937 at Georgsplatz in Hannover to honour 19. century cartoonist Wilhelm Busch. The building was destroyed in the war, but the collection was preserved. The Castle Marienburg

This romantic castle is situated on a hill near Nordstemmen on the River Leine. King Georg V. of Hannover has it built between 1857 and 1866 as a present to his queen, Marie. The large four-winged structure was begun by Hannoverian architect Hase, who was relieved by Opler in 1864. The style is Neo-Gothic, mainly in shape, not in structure. Hannover Zoo

The Zoo was declared an EXPO-Project called "EXPOnat Hannover Zoo" ("Exhibit Hannover Zoo"), with an entirely new concept of visitors' experience. The Castle of Bückeburg

Here, close to the ancient trading route of the Helweg the Counts of Schaumburg had a castle built in the 14. century. Next to the castle a settlement began to develop which gradually grew to a small town. Little happened before the reign of the most remarkable of the counts of Schaumburg-Lippe, Ernst (1601-22). Oriental Carpet Museum

The museum of Oriental carpets is situated on the fifth floor of the Basse House in Georgstraße in Hannover. This remarkable exhibition is based on private initiative of Dr. Amir Pakzad, who is the owner of more than 100 objects from five centuries which come from Turkey, the Caucasian Mountains, Russia, Iran, Afghanistan, India and China. In Sehnde-Wehmingen, 20 km from Hannover on the grounds of a disused potash mine there is an institution that has been visited by thousands of people within the last few years: the Hannover Tram Museum. Historical Museum am Hohen Ufer

The Beginenturm built in 1357 and integrated within the Museum is the symbol of the historical museum and the last witness of the old city wall. Niedersachsen Landesmuseum

The Niedersachsen Landesmuseum contains a selection of paintings and sculptures spanning nine centuries, as well as interesting archaeological, ethnological and natural history exhibits. Museum of the Blind, Hannover - State Training Centre

This museum is situated in the school for the blind in the "Landesbildenzentrum" which was built in 1912/14. It was opened in 1994. With the help of 6000 objects it is demonstrated how blind people have been educated between 1843 and today. You can see education materials, media and tools for daily life. There is a lot of information about Braille-script, books, maps and globes, writing machines and electronic reading machines which make ordinary writing readable with tactual sensation.
