Travel Guide in Bremen
Edit ThisA Bremen travel guide is a great way to learn about the city. You can get a good idea of the attractions and activities available. Bremen is found in the northwestern section of Germany. It is one of the largest and most important cities in Germany. The city's history is extensive and stretches back more than 1,200 years.
What to See
The town hall is one of the most gorgeous sights found in Europe and is a UNESCO site. The building was constructed in 1410 and displays the freedom and wealth of the city. You can take a tour of the town hall at 11 A.M., 12 P.M., 3 P.M., and 4 P.M. The cathedral of St. Peter has a huge façade that is the main structure of the town's main square. The cathedral is more than 1,200 years old. Die Bremer Stadmusikanten are figures from Grimm Fairy Tales that are associated with the city. They are found next to the town hall.
Events during the Year
There are many exciting events that occur throughout the year. On January 6th a tailor will see if he can cross the river without getting his feet wet. This tradition is known as Eiswette. There is a South American themed Carnival in February. Around Easter, there is an Easter market. The Breminal art festival and techno-vision parade are held in June. The LA STRADA circus festival comes to town in August and the Freimarkt occurs at the end of October. This free market is one of the oldest and biggest festivals held in Germany.
Shopping
The Bottcherstrasse is a great Art Nouveau street that contains stores which offer many high quality and up market products. The main shopping streets of the city are Sogestrasse, Obernstrasse and Lloyd Passage. A good area for boutiques is Schooner, where you can find a Christmas shop, paper models, African artifacts and jewelry. Make sure you get some Kluten, a chocolate-covered peppermint, which is a traditional sweet treat that originates from Bremen. The best place to buy Kluten is at Hackez, near the town hall.
Places to Roam
You definitely need to go on the Böttcherstrasse for a walk, which is a street that is alive with art. You can see some very beautiful designs and facades. It is full of shops and has a few museums as well. This street connects the town square to the river. The walk is well worth it, and then there is Am Wall, which is a nice park to relax.
