Things to do in Berlin Mitte
Edit ThisBerlin is one of the most fascinating capital cities in Europe. With its vibrant history and unique architecture Berlin promises to captivate its visitors with everything from scenic beauty to daring stories of escape. Choosing this former divided German city as a vacation spot will astound visitors. In just a small area of the city there are so many wonderful things to do for people with all ranges of taste.
Berlin Zoo
For children and animal lovers the Berlin Zoo promises to impress. Most recently made famous by the birth of the polar bear Knut, this zoo provides several exhibitions and education opportunities. Germany's biggest media star since Boris Becker and Claudia Schiffer, Knut is still in residence. It is possible to see him but autographs can be a challenge.
East Side Gallery
For lovers of raw art the East Side Gallery might be of interest. A word of warning--if you visit in the winter, dress warmly. The East Side Gallery is graffiti art on what remains of the Berlin Wall. Although not your typical art gallery, it does provide an interesting look at the street art Berlin offers. It is also free, so those visiting on a budget can stretch their pennies further.
Check Point Charlie
Once one of the most feared border crossings in the world, Check Point Charlie still stands as a reminder of what life was like in former East Berlin. The Check Point is no longer operational and visitors can pass freely from one side of the city to the other.
Museum at Check Point Charlie
Those who visit this museum will be moved beyond belief. For the adventurer, daring stories of escape fill the room. Located in the old barracks at Check Point Charlie the museum is filled with everything from escape devices and heart wrenching stories. Even those with iron hearts will be moved to tears.
The Berlin Radisson Hotel
This hotel features some of the best luxury accommodation in Berlin. However you do not have to be a guest to view the hotel's most famous feature. Situated in the lobby is the world's biggest aquarium. Lovers of aquatic life and those that enjoy the quirky side of traveling will surely appreciate the value of this feature.
The Jewish Museum
Those who love history will appreciate what this museum has to offer. The Jewish Museum celebrates 2000 years of the Jewish living in Germany. It covers all aspects--featuring exhibits of Jewish art and culture. Although the Second World War was a terrible time for Jewish people, this museum does show that with the exception of that era, Germans and the Jewish did manage to live together peacefully for a large part of history.
