Nightlife and Entertainment in Berlin Mitte
Edit ThisIf you crave a city where you can dance until dawn, Berlin is the ticket. Berlin Mitte Nightlife is packed full of clubs, bars and dance floors featuring great music and fun. Berlin has a long tradition of nightlife, dating back to the 1920s, and shows no sign of slowing down.
Berghain
Known as a dangerously hip club to see and be seen. Berghain was created in the remains of an abandoned power station. From the outside it doesn't look like much but the inside is a completely different story. Once inside the first thing you'll notice is a packed dance floor with Berliners and visitors dancing away to the pounding techno music. The club is open only Fridays and Saturdays, and closes at midnight. Guests should arrive early and put on their best smile for the doorman. No one gets past without his approval.
E and M Leydicke
For a slightly quiet and toned down taste of Berlin nightlife, E and M Leydicke stands out. Built in the 1800s, it's one of Berlin's oldest pubs. They serve a wide variety of beers, wines and spirits. Live music is an added treat with blues, country and rock being their biggest draws. The visitors are expected to dress slightly upscale. the pub is open from 6pm to 2am and accepts cash only for payment.
Zur Letzten Instanz
For nightlife combined with a taste of Berlin's history, try Zur Letzten Instanz. It's the city's oldest pub, in existence since the 1600s. It's famous for being the last stop for once convicted criminals. Now the ambiance has changed remarkably. The pub serves traditional dishes and offers a wide selection of wines and beers. They are open Monday to Saturday, noon until 1 am, and accept cash only as payment.
Hafen
With psychedelic decor, this club is one of Berlin's most popular gay hangouts. If visiting on Friday or Saturday, it's recommended to arrive early, as it gets absolutely packed. The club opens at 8pm and tosses everyone out at 4am the following morning. Payment is cash only and the dress code is stylish.
Atrane
What would Berlin be without a visit to a dark, smokey Jazz club? Local talent as well as big names in the Jazz world have passed through their doors. Herbie Hancock, Winton Marsalis and Alice Coltrane are known frequent visitors. The club is open from Sunday to Thursday from 9pm to 2am. On Friday and Saturday they close at 9 for shows starting at 10 pm. The cover charge varies between 10 and 20 euros, with cash the only form of payment allowed.

Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz
Edit ThisAt the beginning of 2000 the directors Sasha Waltz and Thomas Ostermeier and the dramaturgs Jochen Sandig and Jens Hillje took over the artistic direction of the Schaubühne. The new directors are harking back to the theatre’s founding tradition as a venue for international contemporary theatre with a permanent ensemble at the heart of the concept. But the team is also providing scope for new theatrical forms by bringing in young playwrights and choreographers and combining dance and drama in a way that dissolves the borders between these two genres.
