7 Day Itinerary in Berlin
Edit ThisBerlin is a great place to visit because there is so much to do there. You can see most of what the city has to offer in 7 days.
Day 1
Visit the Berlin Wall Museum to see a preserved section of the wall. Progress to the Brandenburg Gate which was the former entrance into the city of Berlin. The Reichtage is down the street and houses parliament. Climb up to the glass dome to see a 360-degree view of the city or look down to see what is going on in parliament. Take a look at the television tower that rises 1,207 feet and is a symbol of the former East Berlin.
Day 2
Tour the baroque style Charlottenburg Palace which was rebuilt after WWII and its beautiful gardens. Visit the Gemaldegalerie which houses a collection of European art dating from the 13th to the 18th centuries. The Egyptian Museum is great place to see Egyptian artifacts.
Day 3
Take a trip to Museum Island where you will find the Pergamom Museum which is full of antiquities--including the Ishtar Gate of Babylon. Visit the National Gallery, an art museum specializing in international 20th century art. The Jewish Museum is worth seeing. as well. And, take time to visit the shops and cafes that dot the area around Museum Island.
Day 4
Take time to see the Berlin Zoo because it is one of the largest zoos in Europe. This is where Knutt, the polar bear was born. Checkpoint Charlie is a must-see in the area because this is where one would pass from East to West Germany. The site now houses a small museum. Do a little shopping at Europa Center and have a bite at one of the cafes or coffee houses on the Kurfurstendam, one of the main streets in Berlin.
Day 5
Continue shopping at Potsdam Platz, a former Jewish wasteland developed into a center of entertainment and night life. Nearby is Kunsthaus Tacheles, a former department store turned into artists' studios. It is a little on the grungy side but fun to see.
Day 6
The DDR Museum deals with Communist East Germany and inside is the Stasi Museum. This was the former Headquarters of the German secret police and you can see all their interesting surveillance devices. Also in the complex is a former Stasi Prison that tends to be quite dark and foreboding. Once you are finished there you will need to go to nearby Scheunenviertel Berlin--a former Jewish area that was virtually destroyed but now rebuilt--where you can enjoy any of the many fine restaurants and fun bars.
Day 7
Spend the last day in Berlin relaxing and seeing places you want to visit before returning home. Shop or rent a bike and travel around the Teirgarten Park to enjoy the flowers and fountains.
You will have a memorable trip in Berlin that includes history and a lot of fun.
