View to the Marienberg Fortress

This could be the highlight of the traveler's stay in Wurzburg. The trip up to the view is worth the walk. Small footpaths are laid out amongst the gardens that lead up from the Main River. Here the visitor will see a Zen garden, a Scottish garden, flowers from New York and Swedish influences amongst other beautiful sights. At the point of the gate of the fortress walls, the traveler is struck at how thick these walls are.
Outside of the inner wall the visitor can see the breathtaking view of the Main River and the vineyards just beyond that.

Mainfranken Theater Würzburg

The entire city of Wurzburg did not fare well during WWII, but has kept its spirit and rebuilt. The same is true for this theater. Bombed in March of 1945, the theater was destroyed. Thespians continued performing in the ruins after the war. The theater now runs during the summer and produces great operetta and musical shows.

Juliusspital & Burgerspital

These two hospital's offer a variety of wines including their own, and local foods. The Juliusspital was founded in the 1500's by Julius Echter. This lovely hospital has a garden to find shade and places to relax, a pavilion and a Baroque water fountain. The Burgerspital was built in the 1316 for the wealthy. There is a little chapel that graces the grounds and plays a glockenspiel at set times of the day.

The Residenz

With a commanding view, this castle of the Prince-bishops is definitely a must do. The garden has all the flash and glory of a true traditional European garden. Cherubs and a large fountain announce the life of luxury. Inside the magnificent estate the visitor will find grand ornate columns and intricate sculptures.

Museum am Dom

A little court yard at the rear of the museum is a quiet and often overlooked. Once the traveler is done strolling through the museum, pop out to the court yard and see the various statues and sculptures there. It is a nice relaxing place in the evening, to sit and ponder your visit to this historical city.
