Museums in Wurzburg
Edit ThisAt the northern curl of Bavaria, surrounded by hills and cathedral walls, is Wurzburg. This cultural mecca is the destination of thousands every year and Wurzburg Museums offer the easy explanations to why. Those seeking more than the common days will find it here.
The Main-Franconian Museum
Created in 1947, this impressive structure has quickly become the great center of art and history. With its statistic defying collection of sculptures (specifically those of Tilman Riemenschneider, famed Gothic craftsman) and delicate glass, it delights with every corridor. Explore the unique exhibits and breathtaking architecture. Guests will rejoice in the convenient hours--10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily--and affordable pricing.
Würzburg Residenz
Travel to the jewel of all Wurzburg Museums with the Residenz. Completed in 1744, this palace was soon declared the most beautiful in all of Europe; and even the damages it sustained in World War II could not lessen that opinion. It was rebuilt and revitalized. Visitors will marvel at the opulent rooms, spiraling staircases and marble intricacy. Tour the Baroque-styled corners and be mesmerized. Reservations are necessary, however, to ensure tickets. Guided tours tend to quickly fill. The museum is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Martin von Wagner Museum
Follow the mirrored paths of the Residenz to this university delight. Housed within the palace, the Martin von Wagner Museum is a separate showcase; with its own merits to astound. There, guests will find a collection of rare artifacts and prints. Over 11,000 drawings alone can be viewed; each an essential piece of the past. With Germanic influences tangling with Venetian, the effect is impressive (and not to be missed). Though Mondays are refused, travelers can visit at any other time.
Wurzburg Museums are ever-changing reminders of history. Every moment spent in them is to be savored. And every step taken within in them is to be remembered.
