There are only two main museums located in the small municipality of Oberammergau, but they are both very interesting, which more than makes up for the fact that there are so few.

 Oberammergau Museum

The first, and most prominent, is simply the Oberammergau Museum, featuring valuable treasures of art, culture and history from the area. There is a very strong focus on wood carving, as the wood carvings from Oberammergau are famous for their amazing quality and detail. Considering that religion has had a huge impact on the people of Oberammergau for hundreds of years, religious artifacts are plentiful. An adult ticket costs 4 euro and includes access to the museum itself, as well as one special exhibit and "Worlds Behind Glass," another temporary exhibit. Students pay 3.50 euro and children ages 6 to 10 pay only 1 euro.   

Reptilienhaus Oberammergau

This museum is much less traditional and houses reptiles, mostly endangered, from around the globe. The point of the museum is to make people aware of the pollution and deforestation that is destroying the food supply and natural environment of many species of reptiles, and to generate respect for these important creatures. The terrariums are designed to accurately simulate the habitat of whichever reptile they are housing. This even includes moonlight simulation during the night. In fact, moonlight tours are available at certain times. The adult entrance fee is 5.50 euro and the fee for kids ages 4 to 13 is 3 euro. The Oberammergau reptile house is an excellent and educational place to visit with your family, especially if you have kids.
