Budget Travel Ideas in Oberammergau
Edit ThisTravel Off Season
To save on the cost of hotels and restaurants, travel during the off seasons. In Oberammergau, which is a destination for fine skiing that means making sure to travel in the fall or spring. Summer is also considered a high season so hotels and restaurants will be that more expensive.
Another no-no for budget travelers is to make sure not to visit
Oberammergau while the Passion Play is being performed. That shouldn’t
be so hard since it is only produced every ten years, but it does run
from early May to the beginning of October. Crowds of people visit the
village at that time to see the renowned play that tells the story of
Jesus Christ’s crucifixion.
Hotels and Restaurants
There are plenty of budget hotels in Oberammergau and they are
welcoming places to stay. Clean and with tons of charm, the rooms may
be small, but the staff will ensure your stay is pleasant. For the most
part breakfast is included in the cost of the room, so that helps keep
visitors on their budget. Look around on the Internet for some good
deals. As for food, most restaurants in the village are fairly priced,
but check out the bars with food that tend to have less
expensive fare. Try the local cuisine, which is generally less
expensive than international entrees.
Travel to Oberammergau
You can get to Oberammergau by car, train or bus, with the bus being the cheapest option if you are traveling alone or as a couple. It is expensive to rent cars in Germany and gas isn't cheap, so public transportation would be the wisest choice, unless you have a large party. If you do have a car, you could stay out of town at a less expensive hotel, so that would be one way in which to save money.
However you go you will no doubt have a wonderful time touring this part of Germany that is so close to Austria.
