Things to do in Garmisch-partenkirchen
Edit ThisGarmisch-Partenkirchen, is located in Bavaria and offers a variety of sightseeing opportunities and year round skiing.
Historically, the city of Garmisch-Partenkirchen has the thumbprint of Adolf
Hitler as the 2 cities became 1 under the direction of Adolf Hitler in
order to strengthen the case to the International Olympic Committee for selection as the site
for the 1936 Winter Olympics.
The fact that this city was the host of the 1936 Winter Olympics makes the area a significant sightseeing draw. Visit the Olympic Ice Stadium which was host to a variety of Olympic winter sports. Today, this renovated facility still hosts various sporting events as well as being a venue for other special events.
In addition to skiing, there are a number of other interesting things to do and see in this beautiful Bavarian town. One of those inspiring historical sites is the Werdenfels castle ruins. The castle was built in the Romanesque Gothic style of architecture by Otto VII to provide security and safety for the area.
Natural wonders are plentiful, too. Hiking and walking trails are favorites of naturalists and outdoor enthusiasts of any age.
The shopper will find elegant shops--some specializing in antiques and others in clothing and art. The traditional wares of Bavarian culture can also be found in many shops in this amazing Alpine community.
Whether you need a meal or a light snack, enjoy typical Bavarian food and try some local beer at a gourmet restaurant or a friendly beer garden.
Whatever your interest, Garmish-Partenkirchen offers many things to do while on vacation.
