Located in the Bavarian mountains, Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a splendid snowy and hilly resort. The town is a vibrant epi-center of the US military troops stationed nearby. The ski resort town has all the amenities expected of a snow-patrol event. There are many hotels and hostels in which to bunk up for the night and then when morning comes explore all that this Bavarian community has to offer.

The Castles of King Ludwig II

Linderhof Castle is one of three beautiful castles built by the King himself for protection of his kingdom. To gain a better perspective of the cultural significance of the castle one should understand that Walt Disney used Neuschwanstein Castle as a model for the famous castle in Walt Disney World. This is one of the testaments to mad king Ludwig and his insatiable cravings for architectural beauty. Linderhof was the only castle finished during the reign of King Ludwig. It was also his favorite and smallest castle. Although relatively small, it was extremely well furnished as the intrepid adventurer can see from the crystal candelabra and ornate gold trim. A whopping twelve pounds of gold leaf were used in the construction of Linderhof Castle.

The grounds that surround the castles are majestic forest and rising mountain peaks that reminds the traveler of postcards and pictures in a book. The reality of the situation so that they are right there in front of the eyes and can be physically explored and enjoyed.

The Duality of Benedictine Abbey

Benedictine Abbey in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a church with a twist. Now this may not seem unusual for the eastern world yet it will raise the eyebrows of the western traveler. The church has long been a sanctuary through out the many land-wars that raged through and over Europe and the monks of the Abbey have made a certain product to help stave off the nastiest of war and suffering. That product is wine. The monks make the wine and a few bottles can be purchased as a donation to the monastery. The grounds of Benedictine Abbey are superbly decorated with variations of flowers and ornate shrubs meant to depict the natural beauty of the Bavarian Alps. Any trip to this wondrous area in the middle Germany will be so appreciated by each and every traveler.
