Practical Information in Garmisch-partenkirchen
Edit ThisGarmisch-Partenkirchen is located in a beautiful part of southern Germany and
serves as the administrative center as well. The town is only a cobblestone's
throw away from the border of Austria which makes the sport of skiing a prime
activity. When winter arrives, snow is king and all who come here realize that right away. The Germans and Austrians share a long
relationship that has seen the 2 countries as an empire then back to
solidarity and independence.
The town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen is well-served by Federal Highway 2 which
is actually a continuation of the famous Autobahn (A95) that runs the length of
the country. The standard household current that is run to the residences and
businesses is 210-220 volt. This means that any traveler that comes into the
town or the continent for that matter from the United States will have to do a
little bit of adjusting because the electrical current in the United States of America is 110 volts. There are step-down type electrical
adapters that can be purchased for less than 20.00 USD. This is extremely important to understand and to take
action n seeing that the first time the cell phone is plugged in to charge
without the transformer will be the last time the cell phone will be charged!
The old name for the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen was “German District” and the name is still used by some today, as well. The citizens of this lovely hamlet are mostly of German descent yet seeing that the location is such a crossroads of ethniticity and race there are the notable exceptions. Austrians, Turks, French, Dutch, and many other European nationalities call Garmisch-Partenkirchen home and this makes for a very exciting almost cosmopolitan feel to the area.
SpecificsThe native tongue of Garmisch-Partenkirchen is Deutch and many say “German’ yet this are incorrect as German is the nationality of the people of Germany and Deutch is the standard language of people deriving from German ancestry. The median age of the population of Garmisch-Partenkirchen is between 30 and 40.
