There is still evidence in this town of the Nazis' presence in the area during World War II. The town is situated in a valley surrounded by mountains, which contributes to the area's scenic beauty. Every year, Berchtesgaden attracts tourists from around the world.

Mountains


Mount Watzmann is ,2713 meters high. It is a well known climbing spot, especially its eastern face. Kehlstein mountain is 1,835 meters high, with Eagle's Nest situated at an altitude of 1,834 meters. The area, which has breathtaking views, can be reached by hiking or by public transport. The Kehlsteinhaus, originally owned by Hitler, is located in this area. There is an admission fee to enter.

Berchtesgaden National Park

Berchtesgaden National Park was founded in 1978. Nestled in the heart of the park is Konigssee, a clean lake 190 meters deep. Mountains form the background of this beautiful lake, creating spectacular photographic opportunities. Boat trips on the lake take about 15 minutes, but they may be longer if you have to wait in line first. This is the ideal setting for outdoor activities such as hiking. The hiking routes, which have varying lengths and diffulty levels, are posted on signs. Along the way, you will see a variety of wildlife. One renowned hike is from St.Bartholoma to Eiskapelle. Alternatively, you can walk to Malerwinkel, which takes approximately 45 minutes. Cycling in the park is also possible, and if you travel by car, there is ample parking provided.

Salt Mining Adventure Center

Salt mining has played an important role in the economy of Berchtesgaden. The adventure center is fun and informative, offering visitors a better understanding of the salt mining industry. Visitors can tour the site on a mini train that  transports guests to a salt mine adorned with lights and colors. There is also an interesting salt cathedral, and a salt laboratory that presents information on salt mining in a fun and interactive way. An onsite restaurant offers delicious meals and rooftop deck where visitors can relax. There is an admission fee for the Salt Mining Adventure Center
