Getting There in Berchtesgaden
Edit ThisWhen planning a trip to Berchtesgarden, getting there is one of the most important logistics questions to answer. Located near the border between Austria and Germany in the state of Bavaria, Berchtesgarden has a beautiful national park, which proudly owns the third largest mountain in Germany: Mount Watzman (2,713 meters in height).
Getting There by Plane
When looking for airfares to Berchtesgarden, it is a good idea to start with the Munich International Airport (IATA airport code: MUC) in Germany and the Salzburg International Airport (IATA airport code: SLZ) in Austria. Arriving first to Austria is no problem because the Schengen visa stamp allows you travel throughout all of the European Union countries. If you're departing from within continental Europe, the United Kingdom or Ireland, then it is a good idea to book a flight with either GermanWings or RyanAir, because these two discount airlines offer attractive options. To guarantee the lowest possible rate, make sure to book your flight with at least a week in advance.
From the Airport to Berchtesgarden
From
the Munich International Airport, you can either rent a car, take the
bus or take the train. Taking the ICE high speed train is a very nice
option that allows you not only to experience Germany through a
different perspective but also to enjoy one of the best train services
in the world.
From the Salzburg International Airport, you can take also the speed train, which will cover the 20 kilometer (13 mile) ride in about 40 minutes. There is no high speed train service between Salzburg and Berchtesgarden, but the view is quite beautiful.
