Beaches in Berchtesgaden

Königssee: The Emerald of Germany

Berchtesgaden lies in a valley surrounded by grandiose mountains, including the Obersalzberg, Unterberg, and Watzmann. The majestic hillsides surrounding the Königssee are covered in lush greens teeming with life during the spring, and gorgeous, warm tones during autumn. Königssee comes to life during the spring, while taking its last breaths before hibernation in the fall, so these are the best two seasons to go.

Long electric-powered boats travel around the lake, providing an excellent form of transportation while allowing visitors to have many photogenic opportunities. On the Königssee’s western shore, in front of the immense eastern face of the Watzmann mountain, stands St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral (in German, St. Bartholomä), which is accessible through the boats. The ferries are not expensive, and there are options for individuals as well as groups, as well as round trip or one-way tickets. The Obersee is a short distance from the Königssee and easy to get to via the boat system. Much smaller in size, the Obersee is notorious for its glass-like waters that reflect the surrounding peaks. Not a ripple is seen on Obersee, other than those produced by the various sea creatures or humans. If you are visiting the Königssee, nothing should prevent you from going to the Obersee. Seeing nature in such raw form is a rare treat, and everyone should take advantage of it.

Berchtesgaden is a delightful place for nature lovers, but it is also a magnificent place for anyone to explore.
