Lodging

There are several options offered in Ulm for families or larger groups. The most economical would be to rent an apartment for your visit. The Ulm/Neu Ulm tourism boards lists several flats with rates from 30 € to 100 € per night, depending on how many people and the time of the year. These small apartments come with an equipped kitchen, a full bathroom and linens are included. There are also many hotels in town, with rates starting around 70 € for single occupancy and 95 € for double. Most hotels offer additional cots for a small fee and will offer discount rates for children.

Guided Tours

The Ulm tourism office offers several different tours of the twin cities, such as the classic guided tours, the discovery tours and the Ulm-Extras tours. All tours are conducted in German, but if you book in advance, they can provide an English-speaking guide for your group. The tourism board also offers i-tours, which are tours recorded on a mini computer that can be rented either for 3 hours for 7.50 € or 10.00 € for overnight rental. You can also get a second headset for an additional 2.50 €. You need to have a valid passport for deposit.

Museums

Ulm boasts several museums to suit all tastes. The Ulm Museum offers many exhibitions, such as the archeological collection which features, among others, a 30,000 year old lion-headed figurine, as well as the town history section and the Crafts and Guild section. They offer family passes for 8 €.

The Museum der Brotkulture (Bread Museum) documents the importance of bread for the human race throughout the years. It offers 16,000 objects and works of art. This museum will pique the interest of the whole family.

The Danube-Swabian Central Museum includes 26 sections and illustrates the life in villages and towns in eastern Europe throughout the years.

The National History Education Centre covers themes of geology, botany, zoology, mineralogy, paleontology and ecology of the area. They develop programs for children and most exhibits are hands-on exhibits. This family ticket is priced at 4.50 €, making it a very affordable attraction.

Ulm Minster


A visit to Ulm is not complete until you have been to Minster and the Ulm Town House. Located in the touristic center of the city, this church boasts the highest spire in the world as well as several works of art and antiques within its walls.

Auf dem Krenz Quarter

In this area you can find the Arsenal, built in the 14th century with its Einstein Fountain. Visit the Grabenhausle, which are houses built on the town walls' ramparts in 1634. This area is like walking back in time and is a must see.

Town Walls and the Leaning Tower


The town walls were built in 1482 on the Danube to defend the town. They are now mostly used by pedestrians. Starting at the Lauseck Bastion, the walls lead you past the Fishermen's Quarter, the Tanners Quarter, the Leaning Tower (Metzgerturm), the rose garden. The walls end at Friedrichsau Park. This entire area is bordered by cafes and restaurants and offers stunning views of the Danube and the city.
