Budget Travel Ideas in Ulm
Edit ThisUlm Budget Travel is always possible by following just a couple simple rules. The most important part of planning a trip to Germany is research and especially when it comes to planning a trip on a tight budget. However most people don't know where to start. Here are some suggestions to get you started on your planning for your next budget travel to Ulm.
Saving Money with the Hostelling International Network
Hostelling International is a network that operates 4,200 hostels around the world in more than 80 countries around the world. Having a membership card from this organization will give you access to special offers and discounts at bars, restaurants, shops, museums and hostels not only in Ulm but in all of Europe. It is recommended to apply for a membership card at the local Hostelling International office in your country because application within Germany is limited to Germans and exchange students with a valid student id from a local school or university.
Staying in Ulm on a Budget
If you're visiting Ulm on a tight budget, it is a good idea to stay at the local youth hostel: the Geschwister Scholl Jugendherberge. This youth hostel is located at Grimmelfinger 45 and it takes reservations at +49-731-384455. This hostel holds over 120 people and room rates start at EUR 20. The lowest rates are possible by having a valid Hostelling International membership card. There rooms for 2 persons, 4 persons and 6 persons, and breakfast is included. Credit cards are accepted for payment.
Using Public Transportation
If you're planning to use the bus and rail frequently, it is also a good idea to purchase all-day, weekly or monthly passes. Buying pre-paid passes will allow you to save money on trips because the passes offer discounted rates. If you have a Hostelling International card you also qualify for the lower student rates for passes.
Also, if you are only going to spend a few days in Ulm and are going to use the bus or rail just a few times, make sure to take the bus/rail transfers that are available inside some buses and rail stations. These transfer tickets allow you to get on a bus or use rail transport for free on your next stop. Don't try to trick the system, previous proof of ticket purchase is often checked on a random basis.
Eating on a Budget
Avoid restaurants and try fixing your own dinners by shopping for supplies at local discount food retailers such as Lidl and Aldi. All types of beverages are especially cheap at these 2 places.
