Cannstatter Wassen Beer Festivals

The Cannstatter Volkfest is held every year for 2 weeks at the Cannstatter Wasen festival area. It is held 2 times a year,in autumn, 1 week after Oktoberfest in Munich and a smaller festival in the spring. This unofficial beer fest started out as a trade fair and has evolved into good beer, great food and fun to be had by all.

Augustinermuseum

Don't forget the little places like the Augustinermusem with free admission, unless wanting to view specialized exhibits. Then there is a small cost for adults and children over the age of 7. This amazing museum houses artifacts preserved by monks over time and some of the pieces date back to the 14th century. This museum used to be a monastery in its earlier years but today it is a remarkable piece of history and a site that should not be ignored.

Black Forest Open Air Museum

Along with the many wonders of Germany, the Black Forest offers an open air museum that promises to delight every age group. With 20 buildings to explore, this museum houses artifacts both on a small and large scale. With real houses that were lived in and buildings that were worked in as well as remarkably preserved smaller artifacts, the exhibits in this museum will keep the traveler involved for hours.

Munster

A Gothic cathedral where monks walked its halls over some 500 years ago is a site that is a ‘must see.’ The traveler can ascend the stairs that will take them higher into the building with every step graced with windows to see through to the landscapes outside. For a small fee, the traveler can climb the steps even higher and see the bells that ring in Munster.

Over the Border

Being situated where Baden-Wurttemberg is, the traveler can take side tours to France or Switzerland. Depending on what side of the city the traveler is in, a quick trip to Zurich, Switzerland can take from 30 minutes to 2 1/2 hours. Strasbourg, France is only around 2 hours from any point in Baden-Wurttemberg. Skip on over and take a day and see the sites of the capital city of Alsace in the northeastern region of France.
