Eating Out in Ludwigsburg

Ludwigsburg is in the southwestern region of Germany. Although the downtown area only has a grid of 20 streets, there are many restaurants in which to eat. These restaurants offer a wide variety of Ludwigsburg’s regional favorites.

Marktplatz

The Market Square or Marktplatz is the main place to go downtown and there are small food vendors where you can get local food. There are many small vendors right out on the street and others that have seating areas outside and in. You will pay under $10 for many meals in the square and then you can go shopping.

The Palace

Ludwigsburg is the home of a large palace that is almost as big as the downtown area. It was built in 1704 by Duke Egerhard Ludwig and the town is named after him. This palace has several museums, gardens, and many popular restaurants are nearby.

Schlosstuble

Schlosstuble in the Schloss Hotel is a restaurant in town with German and International Cuisine. It is about 1 block from the palace the building is about 150 years old. The Red Room is a beautiful place in which to eat with the ornate wooden ceiling and gold baroque walls. It is certainly elegant and is for small parties. The rest of the restaurant is decorated luxuriously and it will feel like you went back in time. The salads are crisp and tasty and the schnitzel with noodles is pure heaven. The prices are very reasonable.

Alte Sonne

Alte Sonne provides you with a great dinner with modern German Flair. It is a little pricy but the food is great. The ambiance is very stylish and baroque, yet homey.

Ratskeller Café

The Ratskeller Cafe offers outdear seating and local cuisine. It is highly recommended for breakfast or brunch. Plates range in price from $4 (lunch) to $20 (dinner).

Castle Restaurant

There is a small terrace restaurant at the castle where live music is played during the summer. Lunch is the best time to eat here. Be sure to check out the desserts.

Goldener Pflug

Goldener Pflug is on the West End and is also a Hotel as well as a restaurant. It is stylish and the food is beautifully presented. They have a wonderful wine list, several types of beer and other non alcoholic beverages. You will pay anywhere from $12-$40 for a dinner.

The rich German Cuisine is a feature of Ludwigsburg and seen in almost every restaurant. Check out some of the small coffee shops along the streets as well for cheap but very good tasting food.
