Being a typical student town, Freiburg has numerous places where you can spend the night. Whatever you prefer, there is certainly something going on for every type of night owl!

Some popular night spots in Freiburg

Drifters is in a small backroom attached to Crash. Primarily House. One of the few night spots in Freiburg where the "clients" (well, some of them) can actually shake their booty (i.e. dance).

Crash, for goths and punks, featuring everything from thrash metal through to grunge. Black is de riguer - preferably with a hood and torn jeans.

At the other end of the spectrum, there is Kagan, a disco with a spectacular view of the city. Kagan is found in the main complex built onto the Hauptbahnhof. Slick certainly, for some not enough "street".

Jos Fritz cafe. For the alternative crowd. This is also a charming cafe by day.

KoKi -- Kommunal Kino. Old and tattered, but with an impressive reportoire of old (and modern) cinema classics. Have a glass of wine with your beloved before the film, and promenade in the garden before seeking a nightcap.

Markthalle. Open during the day only. Stand-up eats with the business lunch time crowd: try the fish soup, wok stir fry, penne, southern German Spaetzle, a mixed plate from Afghanistan, or even a good-old fashioned cheeseburger and fries.
