Day Trips in Baden-Wurttemberg

Edit This

Baden-Wurttemberg day trips should be a part of the travel plans of every visitor to Baden-Wurttemberg because they allow you to see more of the country and the continent in a single trip. If you have 1 or more days to spare during your trip, head to any of the following places to make incredible memories:

Spend a Day in Munchen (Munich)

Heading to the capital city of the neighboring state of Bavaria will take only 40 minutes to 2 1/2 hours, depending on your starting point in Baden-Wurttemberg. You can drive or hop on a train from any of Baden-Wurttemberg's larger cities.

Munchen is the third most populous city in Germany and the closest of the top 3 to Baden-Wurttemberg. The classic and modern architecture in Munchen are breathtaking. Even just seeing the BMW headquarters from the outside can take your breath away. Fans of Oktoberfest will love touring the Bier und Oktoberfestmuseum (Beer and Oktoberfest Museum) if they can't make it to the city during the actual Oktoberfest. You can also see the sights of Munchen by river-rafting with a tour group on the Isar River!

Visit Zurich, Switzerland

Depending on where in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg you're staying, you can get to Zurich, Switzerland in around 30 minutes to 2 1/2 hours by car. There are also a number of train stations in the larger German cities that connect directly to Zurich for faster and more convenient travel.

In Zurich, you'll be touring Switzerland's largest city and one of the most expensive cities in the world in which to live and entertain oneself--but don't worry, there's plenty to do on a budget. If you can afford it, dining in one of Zurich's world-renowned restaurants allows you to taste exceptional cuisine. If you just want to sightsee, stop by Zurich Alstadt (Old Town), where the hundreds-of-years-old architecture can transport you to an earlier time. You can also tour parks and gardens and any of the city's many museums. The work of modern classic artists such as Picasso and Munch are display at the Kunsthaus, a Zürich museum.

Step Over the Border Into Strasbourg, France

Quite literally mere minutes from the border between France and the Baden-Wurttemberg region, it will take less than 2 hours to get to Strasbourg from wherever you're staying in Baden-Wurttemberg (if it doesn't take just a few minutes) by train or car. Strasbourg is the capital of Alsace, a northeastern region of France, and offers plenty for travelers to do in a day.

Attractive Strasbourg architecture ensures that you'll never be bored just taking in the sights, particularly the famed Strasbourg Gothic cathedral. Numerous parks showcasing French gardens make for another interesting way to spend the day. There are many museums, but you might want to make time for the Musee Alsacien, which gives the history of life and culture in Alsace, or the Musee Zoologique, which has one of the world's largest stuffed collections of bird species on display.
