Baden-Baden is a little spa town in Germany near the western foothills of the Black Forest that was built on a thermal springs. There are many things to do in this little town but while you are there it is worth it to check out some of the places you can travel to in a day. 

Schwarzwaldhochstraße

The Schwarzwaldhochstraße is the road that winds 65 km through the Black Forest. Make sure to have your camera ready because there are more picturesque scenes behind every bend than you can imagine. 

Strasbourg

Strasbourg is nearby and has a famous historic old town and a beautiful cathedral. You might feel like you are in France because there is a definite French flavor to this town. This is about 55 km and only 1 hour 30 minutes by train. The Ruins of All Saint’s Abbey is in Wurttemberg which was a monastery built around 1192 is nearby about 50 km from Baden Baden. Fires hit the abbey in the 1500’s and the final one that forces all inhabitants out was in 1804. There are some pretty impressive waterfalls under the abbey. 

Rastatt

Rastatt, (15 km can be reached by bus) has two palaces that can be visited as well as a military museum and in Pforzheim you will find a jewelry museum. Don’t miss the historic market place in Freudenstadt (30 km can take bus) and in Karlsruhe 40 km can take a bus) visit another palace, museum and a zoo. 

Heidelberg and Freiburg

Heidelberg and Freiburg are about 100 km away and you can take a train to get there. In Heidelberg there is a working castle to visit (Schloss Heidelberg). Building of the castle started in the 1300’s and it hasn’t stopped yet. You get a guided tour and might be able to participate in wine tasting. Visit the Freiburg Münster or Cathedral of Freiburg to climb the tower and get a grand view of the city as well as seeing architecture from 3 different eras in history. 

Europa Park

Europa Park is 77 km away and takes you through the history of Germany in an informative and fun way. It is great for the whole family and has a few rides, a castle, gardens, fountains, German antique fair, and much more.

There is certainly a lot you can do just a short way from Baden Baden. Visit all the castles, drive through the Black Forest and see all the sites in the region.
