Budget Travel Ideas in Bade

Edit This

When visiting Baden-Wurttemberg, budget travel is always possible, even if you're visiting Germany on a shoe string. Here are a couple of suggestions for budget travel that will allow you to enjoy some hidden gems in this German state.

Visit Goppingen

Located in the Stuttgart Region of Baden-Wurttemberg, Goppingen is the capital city of the district of the same name. Getting to Goppingen by bus is a wonderful experience because you will cross through the Hohenstaufen mountains to arrive to the Fils River. Like many other German cities, Goppingen has a long history that dates back to its foundation sometime in the third or fourth century. This town played an important role, not only during the World War II, but also continued to play an important role in the rebuilding of Germany. The German companies Märklin and Schuler have headquarters here, and this city is well known for the entrepreneurial spirits of its inhabitants. The city provides a lot of great photo opportunities because of the mix between classic and modern styles of architecture.

Sightseeing in Stuttgart

It is possible to visit the metropolis of Stuttgart on a budget. Make a day trip to Stuttgart by train arriving early in the morning at Stuttgart's main train station (which is a great example of the New Objectivity school of architecture) that will leave you right at the beginning of Konigstrasse (literally King's Street), the major point of entry to downtown Stuttgart. From there, you will be able to walk up and down one of the biggest pedestrian zones of Germany, where you will not only see major shopping centers but also great open areas such as the Schlossplatz (Schloss Square). The Schlossgarten is home to Stuttgart's 2 central castles and many museums. A must visit sight is the Collegiate Church (Stiftskirche in German), whose construction dates back to the twelfth century, but includes renovations from the fifteenth century to accommodate the needs of the ruling Protestant Church. This church combines over 6 different styles of architecture.

Events at Heilbronn

The city of Heilbronn is well known for its many events, which draw big crowds every single year. The Trollinger Marathon takes places every May and the admission fee is very inexpensive. The marathon is a great opportunity to interact with locals and get fit at the same time. July brings both the Gaffenberg Festival and the Unterlander Festival, which go all the way until the end of August. Both festivals are unique to Heilbronn and will allow you to experience traditions that have been handed down from generation to generation for centuries. In September, there is the Heilbronner Weindorf,  a wine festival. Then, in October, there is the Hafemarkt Festival. Last but not least, as in all other German cities, the Christmas Market Festival takes over Heilbronn. In Heilbronn, there is always a reason to visit.
